National
Louisburgh retreat
In May, the Youth for Christ team was invited to lead a retreat day in Louisburgh, Co. Mayo, for more than 60 students who had been taking part in the Alpha programme. Alpha is an 11-week video-based course that introduces young people to the foundations of the Christian faith and creates space for honest questions and discussion.
The school’s chaplaincy team asked Youth for Christ to help deliver the Holy Spirit retreat, often known as the “day away”. This day gives students an opportunity to explore who the Holy Spirit is, consider his work in people’s lives and respond through further teaching, reflection and prayer.
The students engaged throughout the day and were particularly receptive to the theme of the Holy Spirit.

Throughout the school year, Marian maintains a consistent weekly presence among students in a local school, leading Alpha, prayer spaces and a drop-in where young people can ask questions, build trust and explore faith. At year-end, one student thanked Marian for encouraging her each Tuesday, affirming her efforts and helping her step beyond her comfort zone. Most importantly, she said Marian had brought her closer to God. The student described Marian’s faith as beautiful and evident in everything she does, calling her an inspiration whose kindness and care had a lasting impact.

A story of faith
In June the YFC team had the opportunity to interview a seventeen year old girl called Roisin about her faith journey. Roisin is a Catholic and experienced God's love when she said ‘I struggled a lot in school with friendships and being included, it got really bad at one point and one night I turned to God because I felt that was the only place that could possibly accept me’. ‘That night was pivotal in the way I saw God, it wasn’t just something I had to do in order to go to Mass, it’s something that I wanted to do and explore my relationship with God’ she recalls, carefully choosing her words.
YFC filmed Roisin’s story and are excited to share it with you in the coming months. She attends a nearby Church of Ireland school and is a key part of the leadership of the Christian Union there.
